Chocolate Complicates Edibles Potency Testing

 

New research has found that chocolate may interfere with how much THC is detected in edibles during cannabis potency testing.

According to the researchers, when there’s more chocolate in an edible, less THC will show up in testing, and when there’s less chocolate, higher and more precise levels of THC will appear. 

Not only does this “matrix” create confusion in dosing, it also creates problems for product manufacturers. If an edible cannabis product tests 10% below the amount on the label, California law, for example, states that it must be relabeled. Even worse, if a product tests 10% or more above the labelled amount – then the entire batch must be destroyed.
